I'd pay good money to see a movie entitled Crazy Lower-Middle-Class Rednecks. Unfortunately, to my knowledge, that's not a real movie; it's only my life. Crazy Rich Asians is a real movie. As a matter of fact, it has been the number one movie at the box office for several weeks. Plus, the book it's based on is a bestseller. I haven't read the book. Unfortunately, I've seen the movie.
I've read nothing but glowing reviews about it from most movie critics. I wanted to see it based on those reviews. Plus, I love that the cast is all Asian which is a very, very, very, very, very rare thing for Hollywood. I just wish the cast had been given more to work with.
Crazy Rich Asians is classified as a romantic comedy. I didn't think it was romantic or funny. It was boring, predictable, trite, and a few of the characters were simply offensive stereotypes, in my opinion.
While watching the movie and cramming popcorn into my face, I kept thinking I'd seen it before. It wasn't until the end of the movie, when I was picking popcorn out of my cleavage, that I realized I had seen it when it was called Pretty in Pink. The plot and many of the characters were almost identical.
Both movies have rich, attractive male leads.
Bland (I mean Blane) and Nick have bratty bros with big mouths.
Both movies feature lady love interests initially in over their heads.
Andie and Rachel were each raised by a plucky, single parent.
Andie and Rachel must overcome mean girls.
Andie and Rachel have kooky friends with questionable fashion tastes
who, of course, help them up their fashion games.
Will Andie go to the prom? Will Rachel go to the wedding?
In the end, in both movies, true love prevails. Was there ever any doubt?
Crazy Rich Asians wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen. Visually, it was incredible. It was eye candy. If that's your thing, go see it; however, I'd advise you to save your money and buy my book entitled Crazy Lower-Middle-Class Rednecks which I'm currently writing. I feel certain it will be a bestseller, and Hollywood will want to turn it into a movie which will make me a CRAZY RICH AMERICAN.
